Gourmet Driving Tour of Burgundy Wine Region

The Burgundy region of France produces some of the most exclusive wines throughout the world and also the most expensive. Wine from Burgundy includes several famous French wines, with the region best known for its Chardonnay (white Burgundy), Beaujolais Nouveau, and Pinot Noir.   In short, a wine buffs paradise, and that's before even taking into account the wonderful roads and scenery.

Starting from Geneva, on the shores of Lake Geneva, our tour of the Burgundy Region and Jura Mountains combines the most wonderful stretches of the Burgundy Wine Route, including the famous Route des Grand Crus where the most expensive wines in the world originate from, with a journey through the deserted Jura mountains, a perfect drivers paradise.  Whilst on the road, you will spend overnight in both the beautiful town of Beaume, at the northern tip of the wine route, staying at a 5 Star Relais and Chateaux Gourmet Hotel, and the city of Lyon, considered to be the Gourmet Capital of France, with more Michelin stars per head than any other town in France.

After your morning briefing and walkthrough, you will depart the city of Geneva, and head along the shores of the Lake, before heading up, across the beautiful Col du Marchairuz, arriving onto the Valley de Joux, otherwise known as the Valley of Watches.

Here many of the most prestigious watch manufacturers (like AP and Patek Philippe) are located, as well as the museum Espace Horloger.

Next, cross into France, visiting he idyllic Lac de Saint-Point for a French Cheese lunch.   After lunch, continue to loop around the Lake, heading then west through sleepy villages, then into the wine region of Burgundy.  The first drive ends just south of the town of Beaune, one of the main wine producing centres in Burgundy.   The last stretch of the drive will pick up the northern part of the famous Burgundy Wine route, Route des Grand Crus, through the Côte de Nuits region which produces some of the world's finest reds with Grands Crus such as Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Romanée-Conti, La Tache and many more

NOTE - subject to arrival times, we can help arrange a tasting at one of the nearby La Cote de Beaune winery, if not, a tasting of wines from the region can be arranged that evening at the hotel.

Overnight: 5 Star Superior Hostellerie De Levernois

Day 3 – Drive the Burgundy Wine Route

Todays drive you will continue along the main wine route through Burgundy, from Beaune in the first you head into the Côte de Beaune: known for both red and white but the greatest white Burgundies (besides Chablis) are from here. Le Montrachet is considered the greatest white wine produced in France.  Here you will also stop for lunch overlooking the vineyards.

Finally, the Mâconnais region - producing generally cheaper wine that can be excellent, made for drinking young, such as Fuisse and Pouilly whites.

The tour then finishes at the wonderful Relais & Chateau Bagnols, set in the beautiful rolling hills of southern Burgundy, in the wine producing region of Beaujolais. Enjoy a tranquil evening in this beautiful part of Burgundy.

Day 4 – the Rhone Alps & Back to Geneva
