South of France Driving Tour

When it comes to sunshine destinations, they don’t come more exclusive than the Cote D'Azur. Our South of France short tour takes in the most beautiful regions of this amazing part of France. This 3-night trip starts in the glitzy seaside resort of Cannes and includes 2 full days of driving in the car. You will head away from the coast into the deserted National Park Verdon, along sweeping gorges and crossing small mountain passes. You will stop by several charming villages dating back to Medieval times, before heading into one of the most scenic areas of France, the Luberon Valley. Spend an evening in the heart of the sweeping hills and vineyards of Southern Provence before heading back down to the coast, on what is probably the greatest driving road in France, Route Napoleon. Spend your final evening in Cannes, taking in the small ports, fine food, and shopping, as well of course taking a stroll along the famous Croisette, the most famous seaside promenade in Europe.

Driving Holiday in the South of France

Day 1 - Arrive in Cannes & Explore the Port

Transfer from Nice airport to Cannes (~25 minutes by taxi). Later in the afternoon, stroll along Rue d'Antibes, the main shopping drag, then down to the delightful promenade, where we suggest you dine. Alternatively, walk further along the promenade and around to Cannes harbor where there are several delightful seafood restaurants to choose from.

Day 2 - Through the Alps Maritimes to Provence

Your first scenic drive starts with a run along the coast from Cannes, through the fashionable seaside town of Juan-les-Pins, then round to the Port of Antibes. Next, head up up into the Alps Maritimes, crossing the beautiful Col de Vence, and driving along Route de Gentelly, then up to Chateau de Taulane, the highest golf course in the south of France. After lunch, continue through the National Parc Verdon, and along the northern side of Gorges Verdon (the French Grand Canyon), then into Provence / Luberon Valley for the evening.

Day 3 - Loop of the Luberon Valley, then Route Napoleon and Parc Verdon back to Cannes

The second drive takes you to the tranquil Montfuron windmill in Provence before heading to the region of Valensole, famous for its lavender fields. Continue to the hilltop town of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie for lunch. Afterward, you will head back along the Gorges Verdon, this time following the southern route. The tour continues along the sweeping Route Napoleon (possibly the greatest “drivers'” road in France) before heading back up to the village of Gourdon, one of the Top 5 most beautiful villages in France. Wander around the old cobbled streets and later continue to follow along the coast to Cannes for your final evening.

Day 4 – At Leisure in Cannes 

Spend a final evening by the coast, enjoying this most jet-set of seaside destinations.
