Day 3 - Bealach na Ba and onto Route 500 / NC500

Depart Fort William, and the next stage of your journey will take you first of all along to the Castle Eilean donan, one of the finest and most well preserved museum castles in Scotland. Now continue towards the west coast, with a run over the highest mountain pass in the UK, Bealach na Ba, and down to the town of Applecross, where lunch is taken.  You are now directly on the NC500 / North Coast 500, and can begine your journey along what is now one of the most famous stretches of scenic road in the whole of Europe.  Follow the rugged coastline around to Loch Torridon, where you can stop for afternoon teas at the Torridon Hotel or Inn.  The final stretch of the drive then takes you alomng the shoreline of Loch Maree, and onto your overnight stay at the Shieldaig Lodge Hotel

Day 4 - North Coast 500 - Northern Loop

Now it's time to head to the most northern extremes, and without doubt the most scenic part of the NC500.   From Loch Torridon you will hug the coastline, through the small villages of Poolewe and Drumchork, before arriving at the  fishing village of Ulapool  where you can enjoy morning coffees overlooking the port.  Next stops if the Kylesku Bridge, for the most iconic photospot with your car (one of the most famous photstops for the likes of Evo and Top Gear). From the Kylesku Bridge, continue north then onto the highest stretch of the NC500, as you make your way literally across the top of Scotland, past salt water lochs, deserted bays and golden sandy beaches - this landscape is truly one to take your breath away.  The drive finishes close by to the bay at Crosskirk, with an evening at the delightful Forss House Hotel, where you can enjoy an excuisit seafood dinner at the hotels 2 Rosset restaurant.

Day 5 - The East Coast & Whiskey Country

Your next drive starts with a run across to the most northerly town on the Scottish mainland, John o'Groats, where you can stop up for coffees overlooking the port that serves boats to the Orkney islands.  From here, loop around an onto the eastern coast of Scotland - whilst not as wild and unkepmt as the western coast, the coastal drives offer fine views across the Atlantic, stopping by at two beautful coastal castles en route to Inverness.  After arriving on the outskirts of Inverness,  turn east head into the National Park Cairngorms  and then pick up one of our favorite drives of the tour, following the path of the River Spey, as it winds it’s way east towards the whiskey producing region by the same name.  Keep your eyes peeled for wild deer, grouse and other wildlife of this remote region.  The drive then ends in the small village of Dufftown at the Craigellachie Hotel / Inn, specializing in the finest malts from the region.  Later that afternoon we suggest you make a visit to the Glenfiddich distillery (5mins by cab), for a quick tasting tour, before returning to the Craigellachie  and dinning in the hotels charming bar-side restaurants.

Overnight: 4 Star Boutique, The Craigellachie, specializing in the finest malts from the region.

Day 6 - The Whiskey Trail and Carnigorns National Park Your final tour is broken into two main stages.  The first stage sees us following the whiskey trail, past some of the most prestigious whiskey producers in the land, stopping shortly at the Glenlivet distillery for a guided tour.  You then continue onto the stunning “old military road” which sweeps south through the Cairngorms National Park, past deserted ski resorts, across lower mountain passes, stop at the Balmoral Castle.  You then continue south through the park, sweeping along stunning valleys where the views are quite simply breathtaking.  The tour is completed with a run down into Edinburgh.
