Morgan Driving Tour - Cotswolds & Welsh Mountains

Day 1 – Arrivals to the beautiful Cotswold

If making an international trip, arrive into London Heathrow airport. From here, we suggest collecting a regular rental car and heading to the heart of the English Cotswolds - drive time is a little over 2 hours.

Country House Buckland Manor, Broadway, UK - Booking.com

Your welcome pack and ‘Morgan Roadbook’ will be in your room on arrival. Now enjoy an afternoon and evening in the historic city.  A reservation and inclusive welcome dinner will also be arranged that evening at the award winning Olive Tree Restaurant in the hotel.

OVERNIGHT:  Relais & Chateaux, Buckland Manor, Broadway

Day 2 – Visit to Morgan Factory then into Snowdonia

The following morning you will be greeted personally at the hotel for your tour walk though and handover of your Morgan car. After ensuring you are all set and an on-call communications channel set up, you will be on your way.

The following morning make the short 30min drive to the Morgan Factory in Malvern where you will be met and greeted at 09:30am for a private guided tour of the factory, followed by mid morning coffee and cakes.

The tour then takes you directly west, passing through the beautiful Shropshire Hills as you make your way towards the Snowdonia National Park and mountain region.  Once into the park, you will drive a scenic loop of some of the region’s finest roads, including probably the best driving road in Wales, the B4391.    These are roads famously driven by the likes of Evo and Top Gear when testing their cars – the road surfaces are some of the most exemplary in the UK and the light traffic make them a delight to drive.  Along the way you will enjoy lunch in the heart of the mountains, visit several sights of historical significance.  After completing the loop, turn south and head to the delightful village of Llanbrynmair and one of the deluxe and most exclusive Guests Houses in the UK, the recently opened ‘Royston’ winner of the Sunday Times Best Hotel in Wales 2019-20.

Later that afternoon, you can experience a shared lesson of Clay Pigeon shooting, with 25 Clays / Cartridges at the nearby Clay Pigeon Shooting center (note current COVID restrictions mean this excursion is not available).

OVERNIGHT:  The Royston Luxury Guest House, Mid Wales

Day 3 – Elan Valley & Brecon Beacons

Your second drive takes you south from Llanbrynmair, with a first port of call at the Elan Valley. This isolated valley with a lake / reservoir is one of the best kept secrets in Wales – with it’s serious of delightful Victorian Dams and reservoirs, it’s the perfect photo opportunity for you and the car in total isolation. You will drive a delightful loop around the lake.

Next turn due south towards the Brecon Beacons National Park where you will encounter another series of delightful mountain roads, including the most famous of them all - the Black Mountain Pass, made famous by the UK Top Gear team back in the nineties as one of the best driving roads in the UK.  Stop for lunch in the heart of the National Park for lunch with views across the rolling peaks.

After lunch, turn east and head back into England, crossing the spectacular Seven Bridge before arriving in the city of Bath, where you will spend the evening at the Roseate Villa Hotel – just 5mins walk from the historic centre

OVERNIGHT: The Roseate Villa Bath

Day 4 – The Cotswolds

Your final drive will be a leisurely cruise though one of the most beautiful regions of England, the Cotswolds.  This journey will take you south north along the entire length of the region and showcase all that is quintessentially English in this verdant and lush part of the country.

The drive starts by taking you out from Bath to the beautiful village of Castle Combe, where you can park up and stroll around the picture postcard village – one of the most attractive in the UK.  From here, head through Badminton, home to the famous Horse Trials to the beautiful village of Tetbury, where we recommend you stop for a light refreshment at the Royal Oak, one of the most scenic Inns in the Cotswolds.

Now the roads start to really open out, with fine views across the Cotswolds driving stone walled roads.  Continue north through  Cirencester and along to Bourton-on-the-Water, where you will stop for lunch – often referred to as a little Venice in England, this really is a most scenic place to spend a few hours enjoying lunch.  Lunch over, make a loop of the region surrounding the village of Broadway, stopping by at the Broadway Tower, before continuing your drive back to Morgan HQ at Malvern, where the car is dropped back at around 17:00.  After the drop off, return to the Buckland Manor for a final evening.  After settling into your hotel, take the short stroll downtown for dinner.

OVERNIGHT:  Relais & Chateaux, Buckland Manor, Broadway

Day 5 - Spend a final day in the Cotswolds

Spend your final day in the wonderful and peaceful Cotswolds, visit the nearby village of Broadway, and enjoy a final English Afternoon Tea, before making your own onward plans.
