Stelvio & The Great Dolomites Road Driving Vacation
Starting in Venice, this Italian alpine self-drive tour takes you on our favorite twisting passes along rivers and up mountainsides to stunning viewpoints of the most iconic Dolomite peaks. Get the full experience in your dream car with dozens of hairpin turns, massive elevation changes, tunnels, and beautiful alpine lakes. Also experience one of the steepest and highest climbs in all of Europe on the famous Stelvio Pass. Continue through less-traveled mountain villages, pastures, and forests to Adamello-Brenta National Park, on to Lake Garda and Monte Baldo. The route takes you back to Venice where you can choose to stay longer and get your fill of rich Venetian culture.
NOTE: It is possible for this tour to begin and/or end in Verona if preferred

Stelvio & The Great Dolomites Road Driving Tour
Day 1 - Arrive in Venice
Arrivals into Venice. Typically fly into Venice airport and get the train or taxi to Piazzale Roma on the Island. From here, it's a 10-minute stroll to your hotel. The hotel is then an easy walk to all the main sights of Venice. River taxis are also possible from Piazzale Roma.

Day 2 - Drive 1: Into the Dolomites
Your Dolomites adventure begins by leaving Venice and following the small Arzino River into the mountains on the twisty SP1. Before too long, you'll pass around the stunning Lago di Verzegnis. Across the Tagliamento River, you'll take the Sella di Rioda Pass which offers turns, climbs, and views that will blow you away. After lunch, you'll continue towards Cortina d'Ampezzo, making a short diversion to Lago di Misurina if you wish. This alpine lake is surrounded by some of the most iconic Dolomite Peaks! Finally, zoom down Passo Tre Croci and into the ritzy ski town of Cortina d'Ampezzo for your evening stay.

Day 3 - Drive 2: The Great Dolomites Road & Seceda Ridge to Merano
On Day 3, you'll start on Passo Falzarego, then continuing on one of our favorites - Passo Pordoi. Next is Passo Sella and an optional out and back run over Passo Gardena before continuing towards the town of Bolzano. Lunch will be along the way at possibly the most iconic Dolomites location of all - Seceda Ridge. A cable car takes you up to 2500 m where you can eat, hike, and enjoy views so impressive you will never forget them. On a clear day, you can even see Grossglockner Mountain more than 150 kms away. After lunch, you'll drive to a scenic overlook called Kottnkino, where there are a dozen "stadium seats" permanently anchored to the rocky outcrop for you to take in the views before heading to your hotel for the night.

Day 4 - Drive 3: Stelvio Pass & Trento-Aldige
Stelvio Pass begins in the town of Trafoi, and famous for good reason, Stelvio offers visitors one of the steepest and highest climbs in all of Europe. After your drive to the top and some lunch, continue down the less famous but still incredible southern side of the pass. Continue through the pretty mountain town of Bormio and onto Passo Gavia. Narrower and far less traveled, Gavia, creates a whole different kind of thrill! The route then enters the Non Valley, famous for its delicious apples grown at high altitude, before a final small mountain pass to your hotel in the Adamello-Brenta National Park.

Day 5 - Drive 4: Lake Garda & Monte Baldo
The final drive begins through the Adamello-Brenta mountain range. Elevation will drop as you wind your way into Riva del Garda, the city at the northernmost tip of Lake Garda. The route heads up onto Monte Baldo, the mountain forming most of the eastern edge of the lake. After twisting through high mountain pastures and forests, you'll drop down to the lake shore again for lunch. After lunch on the shores of Lake Garda, it is a direct drive to your final hotel out among the islands of Venice.

Day 6 - Explore Venice & Departure
Venice is one of the most exciting cities to visit in all of Europe. The canals and bridges, shopping streets, Michelin Star restaurants, beautiful architecture and interesting history are too much to fit into one or even two days! Because of this, we recommend adding a night or two on to the end of your tour before heading home.
