Our Lake Como driving holiday takes you on a driving adventure from Zurich, heading south through the majestic Swiss Alps, and down to the beautiful resort of Tremezzo, set on the western shores of Lake Como.

This 4-night trip starts in Zurich and includes 3 full days of driving.  The first drive is around the beautiful Lake Luzern, then across the Gotthard Pass and down to Lake Como.  The second drive is a shorter half-day loop drive around Lake Como, before a final drive returning back to Zurich via the beautiful San Bernadino Pass.  

When staying on Lake Como though, you really do want to do it in style!  For this reason, the package includes two nights at the prestigious 5 Star Superior Grand Hotel Tremezzo - set directly on the shores of the lake, this hotel is positioned on the best spot along the westerns shores, directly overlooking the resort of Bellagio, it also has a pool literally floating above the lake with a stunning gourmet restaurant. 

Our Lake Como drive is like no other, as it equally combines the joy of driving, with some time to unwind on the shores of the lake.

Lake Como Driving Holiday

Day 1 - Arrival in Zurich, time at leisure to enjoy the city

Arrive in Zurich and transfer to the B2 Boutique & Spa Hotel where your roadbook and welcome pack will be waiting in your room - this will help you to orientate yourself for the arrival, including a recommended walking tour and places to visit and eat, with local knowledge and insider tips.  After your check-in, we recommend you to visit Zurich's beautiful old town, on either side of the Limmat river.  Next, take a walk along the world-famous shopping street that is Bahnhofstrasse, with its incredible collection of jewelry and designer stores. Continue to Lake Zurich, where you can stroll along the lakeside promenade.

Day 2 - Tour through the Swiss Alps to Lake Como

This morning you will be met at your hotel at 08:30 am, for a briefing on the driving tours, and of course a walkthrough and briefing on your car and the GPS you will use to navigate - featuring all the best driving roads and pre-planned stops for sights, lunch, coffees, etc.  You are now ready to hit the road in style!

Your first driving tour will then take you south, initially via the scenic shores of Lake Luzern, stopping at one of the most beautiful lakeside resorts at Lake Lucerne for morning coffees. You then trace the shores of the lake and continue south into the heart of the Central Swiss Alps, where you will take lunch in the Alpine resort of Andermatt.

After lunch, your tour takes you over the sweeping Oberalp Pass (2033m) and Lukmanier Pass (1915m) and across the Blenio Valley, before reaching shores of the Lake Lugano. From here, follow the shoreline of the lake and head to your hotel set directly by Lake Como.

(Note: in Spring and late Autumn, the first drive takes you via Gotthard tunnel south to Lugano and then to Lake Como, otherwise the rest of the tour remains the same).

Day 3 - Drive a Loop of Lake Como

Today, you will drive a beautiful loop around Lake Como. In the morning, run along the western shoreline of the lake, then take the car ferry from Cadenabbia, directly to the resort of Bellagio, where you can explore the beautiful old town, and also visit the 5 Star Villa Serbelloni where you take your morning coffees on the hotel`s terrace overlooking the lake.

Coffees over, continue south, along the shores of Lake Como, and visit a village of Magreglio dominated by its little church that is declared to be the patroness of cyclists - from here, head into the mountain roads behind the village, climbing to the viewpoint at Colma di Sormano, where the is a lovely observation deck, with great views across the mountains and Alps to the north.  Take lunch near the summit, then after lunch head back down to the lake shores, passing through the town of Como, then rejoining the western shoreline.  Now, follow the shore of the lake north to Lenno where you can visit the stunning Villa Balbianello (subject to opening times), featured in movies 007 Casino Royale or Star Wars. Take a stroll in its impressive gardens before continuing back to your hotel.

Day 4 - Return to Zurich via San Bernardino Pass

Your final tour back to Zurich sees you head north from Como and along the shores of Lake Lugano. Take the last opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Italian Lakes while having your morning coffee. Then, continue through Valley Mesolcina and its charming Italian villages, before heading over the sweeping San Bernardino Pass, rated as one of the best driving roads in Europe.

Now in Switzerland, stop for a traditional Swiss lunch and afterward pick up the path of the Rhine river as it makes its way north. This particular stretch of road takes you past gorges and some spectacular rock formations, created over millions of years by the river. Here is an optional stop at the Rofla Gorge, probably the most dramatic gorge in this region, before completing the last stretch of the drive and back to Zurich.

Day 5 - Final Day in Zurich, time at leisure

Spend the last day taking in the sights and attractions of Zurich, a compact yet international city, with a wonderful old town (on either side of the Limmat river) the world-famous shopping street, Bahnhofstrasse, with its collection of watch and designer stores, then down to the chilled-out shores of Lake Zurich, where you can take a coffee at one of the lakeside cafes with views all the way down to the Alps on a sunny day.
