Black Forest Driving Tour

Our Black Forest Driving Tour takes you on a journey through beautiful villages and fast/sweeping trails of the Black Forest / Schwarzwald region of Germany, pausing at a luxurious spa resort in Baden Baden along the way.

This 3-night trip starts in Zurich and includes 2 full days of driving in the forest. The first tour will take you north from Zurich, crossing the Rhine into Germany, then continuing through the heart of the forest. Drive past glacial lakes and along lower mountain passes, then visit the famous Triberg Falls, which are the highest, and some say most beautiful waterfalls in Germany. The second driving tour takes you south and back to Zurich, crossing the highest mountains in the forest and passing small ski fields. The Black Forest & Spa Driving Tour is a delightful mix of great driving roads, picture-postcard villages, and spa resorts, allowing you to drive and relax at the same time.

Black Forest Driving Tour

Day 1 - Arrive in Zurich / Spa Time

Arrive in Zurich and check into the 4 Star Superior B2 Boutique Hotel & Spa. Take the tram to the old town (~5 minutes) and spend the afternoon exploring the cafes and boutiques of Zurich, or take a stroll along the world-famous Bahnhofstrasse. Enjoy the hotel's rooftop spa and pool (if weather permits) with lovely views across to the nearby mountain of Uetliberg.

Day 2 - North to Baden Baden via the Glacial Lakes

Your car will be delivered to the hotel in the morning and your eRoadbook features all the best scenic drives, plus of course recommended stops for sights, lunch, and coffees. Your first drive takes you from Zurich to the Rhine (a natural border between Switzerland and German) where you cross the border at the beautiful village of Kaisersthul, with castles on either side of the river. Burst into the southern Black Forest via sweeping lower mountain passes, then down to the beautiful Lake Schulesee. Drive deeper into the forest around Mount Feldberg (the highest peak in the forest) then to the town of Triberg, where you can visit the Triberg Falls, the highest waterfalls in Germany. Continue into the northern Black Forest, along several panoramic strasses, before stopping to enjoy a traditional Black Forest lunch. Complete your drive to Baden Baden by picking up Route 500 / The Schwarzwald Hochstrasse - probably the greatest "drivers'" road in the Black Forest. With views from high above down to the Rhine Valley, it's the perfect way to finish the drive.

Day 3 - South to Zurich via Mount Kandel and Schauinsland ski areas

The drive back takes you along the western extremes of the Black Forest where you will drive over two of the most beautiful mountains in Germany's Black Forest region, Mounts Kandel and Belchen. Each peak rises to more than 1300 m and offers stunning, but contrasting, panoramas of the surrounding forest. After lunch, continue south towards the Rhine, passing through the villages of Todmoos and Todtnau, and skirt the edge of Mount Hochkopf. The final drive to the border is along the Wehr River Valley, which was carved out during the ice age, and has gorge-like rock formations on either side. The sound of the car engine reverberating off these walls is a perfect way to complete the run back to the border.

Day 4 - Final day in Zurich

Spend the last day taking in the sights and attractions of Zurich. The world-famous shopping street, Bahnhofstrasse, offers its collection of designer stores, or you can head down to the chilled-out shores of Lake Zurich.
