French Riviera & Provence Driving Tour
When it comes to sunshine destinations, they don’t come more exclusive than the Cote D'Azur. Our French Riviera & Col Turini Driving Tour takes in the most beautiful regions of this amazing part of France.
This 4-night trip starts in the glitzy seaside resort of Cannes and includes 3 full days of driving in the car. From here, you will head away from the coast into the deserted National Park Verdon, along sweeping gorges and crossing small mountain passes. You will stop by at several charming villages dating back to Medieval times, before heading into one of the most scenic areas of France, the Luberon Valley. Spend an evening in the heart of the sweeping hills and vineyards of Southern Provence, before journeying back down towards the coast, on what is probably the greatest driving road in France, Route Napoleon, spending the next evening near to the beautiful village of Saint Paul de Vence. The final drive then takes you on a loop of the Alps Martine mountains, where the Monte Carlo rally is run, across the most famous Col in these parts, Col Turini. Then you'll skirt down to the coast to Monte Carlo.
NOTE: This holiday is subject to certain peak season supplements, in particular, if traveling in July or August due to the higher rates in these months.
French Riviera & Provence Driving Tour
Day 1 - Arrive in Cannes, Day at Leisure by the Sea
Take a transfer from Nice airport to Cannes (~25 minutes by taxi). Later in the afternoon, stroll along Rue d'Antibes, the main shopping drag, then down to the delightful promenade where we suggest you dine. Alternatively, walk further along the promenade and around to Cannes harbor where there are several delightful seafood restaurants to choose from.
Overnight Hotel: 5-Star Superior Five Seas Hotel, Cannes
Day 2 - Tour through the Alps Maritimes to Provence
Your first scenic drive starts with a run along the coast from Cannes through the fashionable seaside town of Juan-les-Pins, then round to the Port of Antibes. Next, head up up into the Alps Maritimes, crossing the beautiful Col de Vence, and driving along Route de Gentelly, then up to Chateau de Taulane, the highest golf course in the south of France. After lunch, continue through the National Parc Verdon, and along the Gorges Verdon (the French Grand Canyon), then into Provence and close by to the beautiful village of Gordes for the evening.
Overnight Hotel: 5-Star Couvent des Minimes Relais & Chateaux
Day 3 - Luberon Valley & Mount Ventoux / Optional Down Day with Wine Tasting
Day 3 takes you on a scenic loop of the Luberon Valley, culminating at the summit of Mount Ventoux, one of the most famous cycling stages on the Tour de France. The Luberon region is renowned for its delicious fruity wines and blooming lavender fields (at their best in the month of June). This drive takes you along the valley and over twisty Col de Murs before you immerse yourselves in the beauty of the hilltop village of Gordes, overlooking the Luberon vineyards. Alternatively, you can have a down day at the hotel, and enjoy the spa food, and we can even help arrange a local wine tasting for you.
Overnight Hotel: 5-Star Couvent des Minimes Relais & Chateaux
Day 4 - Route Napoleon & Parc Verdon
Day 4 starts with the famous windmill Montfuron in Provence before heading to the region of Valensole, famous for its lavender fields. The drive then continues up to the hilltop town of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. Head back along the Gorges Verdon, and continue along the sweeping Route Napoleon (possibly the greatest “drivers'” road in France) before heading back up to the village of Gourdon, one of the Top 5 most beautiful villages in France. Wander around the old cobbled streets and then drop down onto the highway, and 45min later you arrive at the jet set Principality of Monte Carlo, make a few laps of the F1 circuit, and then spend your final evening just a few minutes stroll from Casino Square.
Overnight Hotel: 4-Star Superior Le Meridian Hotel Monaco
Day 5 – At Leisure in Monte Carlo
Spend a final day in Monte Carlo before later making your way back to Nice Airport by bus or taxi from the hotel.
