Day 1 - Arrive into Manchester and overnight

Manchester is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the UK with numerous award winning restaurants, a wide range of cultural sights and districts such as The Northern Quarter and the trendy Ancoats neighbourhood, and a plethora of shops, bars and architecture to meet a variety of interests. Spend your first night at the super modern, but ultra trendy Dakota hotel.

That evening at around 18:00, our team will arrive at the hotel with your Morgan of choice and you will receive a full briefing and walkthough of the car. You will be presented with your driving tour, including your GPS unit, pre-loaded with each of the drives - including the best roads, places to stop and eat along the way.

OVERNIGHT: The Dakota, Manchester

Days 2:  Into the Yorkshire Dales

After a morning breakfast, it's now time to hit the roads.

Heading north from central Manchester towards the Yorkshire Dales, you’ll pass the famous Lancashire cotton mill town of Burnley where this drive parts company with the major M and A roads. From here it takes you along some picturesque valleys and through typical English towns such as Hebden Bridge where you can explore the Hardcastle Crags.

Now continuing north, the drive moves into the Yorkshire Dales where you will check into The Devonshire Fell. After leaving your luggage at the hotel, you’ll embark on an exhilarating circular drive in the afternoon passing through Pateley Bridge, alongside the Gouthwaite Reservoir with its’ dry stone wall perimeter and expansive views of the Nidderdale AONB. Additionally there is the opportunity to visit the famous Black Sheep Brewery for a factory tour and a chance to stock up on some of the best beers the UK has to offer. Pushing onwards further into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, divert slightly away from the main loop and visit the Wensleydale Creamery – of Wallace and Gromit fame!

The last part of the circuit features a favourite stretch of the B6160 at Kidstone Bank. Finally you return to The Devonshire Fell for a hearty meal in the hotel, ready to take on the open road again the next day.

OVERNIGHT: Devonshire Fell Hotel

Day 3 - The Pennines

Today you’ll leave The Devonshire Fell hotel after a filling Yorkshire breakfast and move northwards, experiencing some of the best driving roads the county has to offer and taking in the sights of the North Pennines AONB. The region offers up a landscape of open heather moors and peatlands, attractive dales and hay meadows, where tumbling upland rivers pass through woodland. The drive from the hotel to the stone hamlet of Thwaite is simply unforgettable – you’ll have a hard time keeping your eyes on the road, such are the views from this twisting pass.

From here cross into the North Pennines where the next stop is the famous High Force Waterfall on the River Tees in County Durham. A spectacular sight mirrored in the incredible driving roads immediately ahead of you, after which you reach Lord Crew Arms, your hotel stop for the night. Drop your luggage off here, but head back out onto the road, perhaps after some afternoon tea. The A686 takes you high up into the Pennines before dropping down into Bearsbridge where the Whitfield Village Pantry will serve you a cup of tea and a slice of cake if in your haste to leave the Lord Crew Arms, you went without! Turn east and cross over the hills towards Allendale Town before another change of direction sees you driving southwards to Rookhope before picking up the A689 that follows the River Wear. Several typical northern England villages later and you reach the Killhope Lead Mining Museum. From here the drive takes you back to the Lord Crew Arms, completing the circuit and earning you a hearty dinner at the inn’s famous restaurant.

Late Afternoon Excursion - crowned Britain’s ‘Best Shooting Pub’ by the Countryside Alliance in 2015, we offer a prime spot amongst some of Britain’s most exhilarating and fruitful grouse moors. When outside of shooting season, we can arrange a star gazing or photography excursion for you.

OVERNIGHT: Lord Crew Arms

Day 4 - Onto the Lake District

Drive 3 takes you from the Lord Crew Arms over to the world famous Lake District National Park. In amongst the stunning hills and water-filled valleys are many great driving roads. Passing the highest peak in the Pennine Hills, Cross Fell to your south, your next destination is the iconic Pooley Bridge Boat House at the head of Ullswater. Make sure you stop here for a photo before heading onwards, hugging the shores of the lake for its entire length, passing many waterfalls and rivers that make this area so famous.

After Ullswater the mountains close in and you’ll take on the impressive Kirkstone Pass before dropping down into Troutbeck Bridge and Lake Windemere, finally reaching Ambleside where the Rothay Manor Hotel awaits you. Drop off your bags and decide on your plans for the afternoon. Either drive a loop of Lake Windermere and Lake Coniston, or perhaps take a boat excursion on Windermere, to appreciate the views from another angle.

OVERNIGHT: Rothay Manor Hotel

Day 5 Through the Lakes and the Forest of Bowland

For the final drive, you will start by heading away from Lake Windermere for a short time, reaching the quintessential village of Hawkshead. From here the road takes you briskly towards the forests of High Stott Park before it drops down to Lake Windermere again at Newbry Bridge. Deviate off the main route and stop at The Boathouse Café for a morning coffee on the southern shores of Windemere.

After coffee, another change of direction sees you take on the Fell Foot Brow and then the sweeping curves of Hyning Brow. Now heading south, you’ll soon leave the Lake District and pass into the Forest of Bowland AONB, an area that seemingly time forgot. Fortunately there are still some great eateries, including the George and Dragon Inn. Next up, Lythe Fell Road brings you into sparse and rugged scenery, crossing the remote Cross of Greet Bridge and up over the hills, all the while the flanked by the region’s typical dry stone walls. Stop off at the Nick of Pendle, a spectacular view point high up on Pendle Hill – the perfect place for a lunch on the road, looking northwards over the drive you’ve almost completed. From here the route takes you back into Manchester for the late afternoon.

The car will be collected that evening, then head out into the city for dinner, and maybe sample the world famous nightlife!
